| ABOUT US Club History The club started life in 1872 as Stockheath & Bedhampton C.C. and played on Stockheath Common up until the early 1900's. Prior to the First World War the club moved to Scratchface Lane, Bedhampton and played their cricket on Wigan's Field, which has since been developed and is now the site of Wigan Crescent. During this period the club were well supported by a number of prominent people including Sir F Fitzwygram, the owner of Leigh Park and Mr A Lee (M.P.). The club continued to prosper and in the early 1930's moved to the present ground at Bidbury Mead where the original table was situated on the lower half of the Mead. in the 1960's the upper half of the Mead was developed where the existing table and pavilion now reside. Bedhampton Mariners Cricket Club was formed in 1993 to manage the affairs of Bedhampton Cricket Club, Mariners Cricket Club & Bedhampton Wednesday Cricket Club. Bedhampton Mariners Cricket Club are justifiably proud of their history and their record of service to cricket and the local community. Saturday Leaque Cricket The clubs 1st team are founder members of the Hampshire Cricket League and after promotion from County Division II in 2007 they will be playing their cricket in County Division I in 2008. The clubs 2nd team were formed in more recent times and after a poor season in 2007 were relegated so they will be playing in South East Division III in 2008 2007 was a landmark year for the Club as we entered a 3rd Team into the League for the very first time. The 3rd Team had a promising 1st season and hopefully will be looking to push for promotion in 2008. As the Club has only one pitch at Bidbury Mead the 3rd Teams home will be at the Fishbourne Club in Fishbourne Village, just over the County border in West Sussex. Sunday Social Cricket Mariners Cricket Club was formed over 30 years ago to provide social cricket for the loocal community in Bedhampton and generally played their cricket on a Sunday afternoon. For most of those 30 years the club has entered a team in the Lord Mayor's Knockout Cup, this they won in 1977 and have reached the later stages many times since. "The Mariners" proud traditions are still upheld by Bedhampton Mariners Cricket Club who can be found playing social cricket evert Sunday afternoon (weather permitting) from the middle of April until the end of September. Mid Week Social Cricket Bedhampton Wednesday Cricket Club was originally set up to cater for shop workers who couldn't play cricket on a saturday due to work commitments. The days of Wednesday afternoon closing are generally behind us so the popularity of midweek cricket has sadly dwindled. Although we no longer have a full fixture list on a Wednesday afternoon we still like to maintain tridition by retainig a few selected games. The various teams who make up Bedhampton Mariners Cricket Club welcome new members and look for and receive the support of the local community.
